   Commissioned by Olivia Swaan, president of Friends of Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota for their 20th anniversary season. Premiered by Lee Dougherty Ross and Don Bryn at the Asolo Theatre, Sarasota, Florida, in May 2016.

   Fireworks is a flashy showpiece for piano duo, lasting just over two minutes, but blazing by with extreme velocity and agility. Loud chords set off a constant rush of quick 16th notes at the onset pushing the momentum forward until a grandiose melody is revealed. A more delicate middle section features sporadic outbursts by the primo pianist while the perpetual motion continues. Eventually, the melody returns, more expansive than before, leading to a return of the opening at the close.
